Last Monday, September 13, India delivered Dornier aircraft to Mauritius as part of the Vision SAGAR program, which aims to increase maritime safety in the Indian Ocean region.

The Indian High Commission in Mauritius stated on social media: “By implementing Vision SAGAR, India has delivered a Dornier aircraft on lease from the Indian Navy to Mauritius and exchanged the contract for the purchase of a new Dornier aircraft under a credit line. The India-Mauritius framework agreement serves the greater maritime security of our common Indian Ocean region.”

Through cooperation in information exchange, coastal surveillance and infrastructure development, India is seeking, through SAGAR, to defend its national interests by enhancing economic and security cooperation with its maritime neighbors.

SAGAR stands for Security and Growth for all in the Region, and reveals India's vision for the Indian Ocean, which includes an interest in ensuring that the region becomes inclusive, collaborative and respects the right International. It represents recognition of the importance of maritime safety, common maritime resources and cooperation.
