Gol, together with the group of the controlling shareholder, Grupo Comporte, signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Avolon for the acquisition or lease of 250 electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL). The announcement was made today (21) and, as long as certification takes place as expected, the air network of eVTOLs in Brazil is expected to start in 2025.

“The Comporte Group is providing the resources required for investment in this project, which will use GOL's aviation expertise to develop the air network using the VA-X4 eVTOL aircraft,” according to the statement, citing the model created by the British company Vertical Aerospace.

The aircraft used will be the eVTOL VA-X4, which is one of the fastest, with a top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph) and the longest range, with 160 km (100 miles) on a single charge. This eVTOL also promises 100 times less noise than a helicopter, with 30 times less noise at takeoff and landing.

Large companies and suppliers are involved in the Vertical project, such as Honeywell, Microsoft, Rolls-Royce and Solvay.

Feasibility studies, certification and analysis of the necessary infrastructure will still be carried out with the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), the Department of Airspace Control (Decea), and other national and international aeronautical authorities. According to the company, the aircraft certification process in Brazil should take place by 2024.
