British low-cost airline EasyJet is investing in another plane for the seasonal base in Faro, as well as adding two more planes to the seasonal base in Malaga, Spain, and two in Palma de Mallorca, also in Spain.

The relaxation of restrictions imposed by covid helped the company's performance, which led the company's CEO to justify the investment being made. He also says that the worst of the crisis must be over, but you never know what will happen to the restrictions.

In addition, EasyJet is betting on zero-emission aircraft to meet its zero carbon emissions commitment by 2050. As part of the solution for lower emissions, the company is also betting on the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as well as other companies are doing.

However, for the company, the use of the SAF is a compensation mechanism that has similar qualities to kerosene, which works as an interim measure, but the excessive focus on the use of the SAF can hinder progress towards the development of zero-emission aircraft .

“We are very optimistic about zero emission flights for the future – we can see there is a reliable path,” said David Morgan, director of flight operations for EasyJet, speaking to media at the Pioneering Sustainable Aerospace Summit hosted by Airbus in Toulouse in Toulouse September 21st. "We believe that burning carbon in any form will be unacceptable in the future."

The company invests in the development of aircraft that use hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel. “Aircrafts with real zero emissions are much more exciting than SAFs”, says the executive.

Zero-emission aircraft technology appears unlikely before 2035. Until then, the company focuses on growing its fleet with higher-efficiency aircraft.
