The new Italian state-owned company, Alitalia's successor, ITA, has struck a big deal with Airbus. The agreement aims to purchase 28 jets from the European manufacturer, with the objective of renting another 31. Thus, the plans are for ITA's aircraft fleet to be entirely around Airbus aircraft. The information is from Thursday, 30.
Among the planes purchased are 10 A330neo and seven A220, which will be used on smaller routes, and eleven A320neo, which will begin deliveries after the conclusion of the business plan. The purchase is worth 1.5 billion euros.
The leased aircraft, on the other hand, will come from Air Lease Corp., will be 5 units of the A330neo, 11 of the A320neo and 15 of the A220. Among those purchased and leased, there will be 15 A330neo, 22 A320neo and 22 A220. Deliveries are expected to begin at the end of the first quarter of 2022, starting the expansion of the company's fleet, which should reach 105 aircraft by the end of 2025.
Airbus planes were chosen because they are more ecologically correct, with less fuel consumption and lower operating costs. These aircraft will help the company to reduce its carbon footprint, meeting growing industry pressures in this regard.
The former Alitalia was a Boeing operator, and there are still 777 units in its fleet, which was inherited by the new ITA. The new airline has plans to collaborate with Airbus on future technologies.
