Electra, a manufacturer of eSTOL (short take-off and landing electric aircraft) aircraft, and Brazilian flight-sharing company Flapper have announced an agreement to sell up to 30 electric aircraft of this type. The agreement covers at least five capitals throughout Latin America, but has a special focus on the city of São Paulo. The start of operations is scheduled for 2027.

In addition, the agreement aims to give full support to Electra with regard to the support necessary for the development of the aircraft and its operation.

“These strategic agreements go beyond technological development and aircraft manufacturing. They map out the entire ecosystem necessary for their successful operation, ground support and customer use that together validate the commercial viability and market confidence of our eSTOL aircraft,” said John S. Langford, Founder and CEO of Electra .

The vehicles burn less fuel than a personal car, but can carry up to 820 kilograms of cargo, with a range of 800 kilometers. The ability to take off and land is only 30 meters away and the battery can be recharged during the flight. Thus, urban mobility can undergo a revolution, since the promised flight prices are much lower than those charged with helicopters.

The companies are already looking, together, for a new route network for the operation of the aircraft. Electra will be Flapper's preferred aircraft supplier for regional flights with more than 5 seats.

“Latin America is an important market for urban air mobility and the city of São Paulo, in Brazil, operates the largest fleet of passenger helicopters in the world. Together with Flapper, we will deliver a quieter and more economical aircraft for this market that reduces fuel burn by 70% compared to helicopters, helping to preserve Brazil's natural beauty and unique biodiversity through a low carbon footprint.” , added the CEO.
