The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) recently published an Operational Safety Alert (ASO), warning pilots about the use of portable electronic devices, especially those manufactured by the company SPOT LLC, which can cause interference and loss of aircraft positioning information. GPS. Devices made by other manufacturers may also cause interference.

The ASO, which came after ANAC received reports of interference occurrences, reports that the device, if kept near the top of the instrument panel (glareshield), could cause interference with the aircraft's GPS antenna. In addition to GPS, other equipment that uses information coming from the positioning system may also suffer interference, such as ADS-B (Automatic Dependet Surveilance – Broadcast).

ANAC advises that, before the aircraft operates in IFR (Instrument Flight Rule) flight conditions, the pilot or operator in command must assess whether there is interference in the communication and navigation systems.

The ASO is a widely disseminated document that provides important information regarding operational safety and provides guidance to operators, seeking to avoid occurrences.
