Singapore Airlines, which has not flown its A380s since March 2020, has announced plans to temporarily resume aircraft operations from November 19 until March 2022 on the Singapore-London route. As a result, Singapore Airlines will become the fourth airline to fly the four-engine jet again.
However, there is a requirement to fly a Singapore A380: to be vaccinated from selected countries against Covid-19 under Singapore's 'Vaccinated Travel Lane' (VTL) health program, in addition to the requirement to submit a PCR test before boarding.
Singapore Airlines has 12 A380s in its fleet, configured with 471 seats, including six luxury suites, 78 seats in business class, 44 seats in premium economy and 343 in economy class. Singapore Airlines offers on its A380 one of the most luxurious configurations today.
The luxury suite has a double bed and resembles a hotel room. This is a configuration that will become increasingly rare, especially after the pandemic.
Other airlines have also announced that their A380s will return to the skies, such as Qatar Airways, British Airways and Emirates. It is not yet known if this return will be lasting or if it is just a “test event” for the aircraft that suffered an early interruption of its operational life by some airlines.
