Portugal's National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) has shown that claims involving refunds have come to lead the total number of passenger complaints in the first half of this year.
In semesters before the pandemic, complaints about this reason were very few.
The agency said 33.7% of the total complaints were about refunds, representing 1411. Second, 1270 complaints were about flight cancellations.
Complaints for flight delays took the 5th position, with 251 complaints compared to 1110 in the same period in 2020.
Flights in Portugal are also experiencing a resumption, and ANAC stated that "after another period marked by phases of confinement and restrictions on passenger movement, in May 2021, there was a resumption of flights and a consequent increase in passengers in the national airports.
This year, there were confinements in Portugal to block the advance of the delta variant, so that there were flight cancellations, which led passengers to ask for a refund.
ANAC cites the fact that the processing of some refund requests is manual, which leads to delays in the request. The leading companies in reimbursement requests are TAP and Ryanair.
