As four-engine planes become obsolete and very expensive from an operational point of view, the superpjumbo Airbus A380 seems to hold a special place among people who really enjoy aviation. Singapore and Qantas, two companies that stocked their Airbus A380 aircraft during the pandemic, announced this week the return of commercial flights with the giant.
Qantas even predicted a huge expense, in the order of 600 million dollars, just to be able to keep its planes in storage condition.
Aircraft stocking is often done in deserted places. This is because the climate in these places does not allow for such rapid deterioration of aircraft parts. For this reason, Qantas expected the big man to return only in 2023. With the advance of vaccination, demand rose again very quickly.
Singapore Airlines will begin operations with the A380 in November, on a flight between Singapore and London to transport vaccines. Right after this commendable flight, it will start with regular passenger transport.
Qantas will take a little longer, and flights with the A380 will only resume in April 2022. Meanwhile, the company is working to take the planes out of storage conditions. The plane will replace the Boeing 787 on passenger flights between Europe and the United States.
