Last week, during a series of ceasefire violations in the Donbass conflict, a Bayraktar TB2 Ukrainian drone destroyed a D30 howitzer operated by Russian-backed separatists. The attack took place on October 26 and marked the first combat mission of the drone, built in Turkey during Ukrainian service.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said the drone attack was a response to a heavy bombardment by separatist forces, which caused the death of a Ukrainian military and left one wounded.
According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the TB2 attack came after separatist forces failed to respond to ceasefire calls by the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (SMM).
Previously, OSCE SMM stated that it had recorded 241 ceasefire violations in the Donetsk region and three in the Luhansk region in a 24-hour period between 24 and 25 October.
Local reports say the Ukrainian armed forces took control of the village of Staromaryivka, located in the “grey zone” of Donbass, during clashes last Tuesday.
The Bayraktar TB2 used in the attack against the howitzer has been in operation in the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2019, the year the army received the first drone units.
