Yesterday, at a ceremony in Zagreb attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, the agreement for Croatia's acquisition of 12 Rafale fighters used by the French Air Force was signed. During the ceremony, two Rafales from the French Air Force flew over the site.

Croatia expressed its interest in acquiring the Dassault Rafale for the first time in May this year. The aircraft is expected to be used to replace the old MiG 21s. The first eight planes are expected to be received by Croatia by 2024. The remaining four will only be received in 2025.

There will be 10 units of the C and two of the B. However, all of them are from the F3R version, the most updated version currently in operation.

Croatia's agreement signed a separate logistical support contract to cover support resources and spare parts for the plane for a period of three years. Croatia must also receive a simulator.

“I am delighted, on behalf of Dassault Aviation and its partners, to establish a trusting relationship with Croatia, a European country, and to be writing a new page for Rafale, which I am sure will give the Croatian Air Force complete satisfaction , while actively contributing to the exercise of Croatia's national sovereignty,” said Eric Trappier, CEO of Rafale Dassault Aviation.

The multi-purpose air superiority fighter is capable of carrying out various types of missions. The Rafale was developed for the French Air Force and the French Navy, but is to be operated by Egypt, Qatar, Greece and India, in addition, of course, to Croatia and France.
