In a ceremony held at Anápolis Air Base, yesterday, December 1st, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) received another unit of Embraer's KC-390 Millenium multi-mission freighter. The aircraft will be incorporated into the fleet of the 1st Troop Transport Group (1st GTT), Squadron Zeus.

The ceremony was attended by Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto, President Jair Bolsonaro and other authorities. In addition, the 60th Activation Anniversary of the 1st GTT was celebrated.

Although the plane performs several types of missions, the main ones in recent months have been the transport of materials, PPE, medicines, oxygen and vaccines due to the pandemic, with emphasis on the transport of supplies and oxygen during the health crisis in Manaus .

Missions outside the country, such as the USA and Colombia, were also carried out, in addition to humanitarian missions in Haiti and Lebanon. Despite being quite new, the KC-390 fleet already has more than 4100 flight hours. The KC-390 will also perform in-flight refueling missions for the F-5M Tiger II, A-1M, H-36 Caracal and, in the future, F-39 Gripen aircraft.

The receiving ceremony was also marked by the unprecedented crisis between the FAB and Embraer, since the contract for the acquisition of 25 aircraft by the FAB signed in 2014, for budgetary reasons, was reduced to 15 units.

On the day that the FAB announced that it was going to reduce the contract, against it, Embraer released a note saying that it will seek legal measures on the case.
