After more than two and a half years of standstill, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has issued an airworthiness directive for the Boeing 737 MAX informing airlines what revisions must be made before returning from jet flights. However, the directive does not give a date for resumption.
“After carrying out an in-depth assessment, the CAAC finds that corrective actions are adequate to deal with this potentially unsafe situation”, reads on the CAAC website.
The CAAC had already indicated, in November, its satisfaction with the changes made to the plane by Boeing, signaling that it could soon issue this airworthiness directive so that the model could return to its operations soon.
China was the first country to stop MAX flights in March for safety reasons, shortly after two fatal crashes with the jet that claimed the lives of 346 people. While other countries have resumed operations with the plane, after corrections by Boeing, China has not yet done so.
“The CAAC decision marks an important milestone in the 737 MAX's safe return to service in China,” Boeing said. While China is not Boeing's biggest market, it is an important country. In September of this year, Boeing made a growth forecast for Chinese aviation. Click on the external link below to read the article.
