Andrei Yelchaninov, vice chairman of the board of the Russian military-industrial commission (MIC), said in an interview with the Interfax website last Friday (10) that the fifth-generation Russian Sukhoi Su-57 fighter will receive the hypersonic missile Kinzhal, which is already used by the MiG-31K Foxhound. In addition, the fighter must receive the Izdeliye 30 engine.

According to the Defense News website, the hypersonic missile used in the fighter must be the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal. The weapon can reach speeds between Mach 7 and Mach 10, being largely capable of breaking through any defense, representing a clear superiority.

Other information says that a missile similar to the Kinzhal could be used in the inner bays of the Su-57, so it would be barely visible to radar.

The Saturn Izdeliye 30 engine will guarantee supersonic jet speed even without the use of the afterburner. The engine has greater thrust compared to the current AL-41F, which will allow the plane to carry a greater load of weapons.

“Tests of the aircraft with the new engine are expected to be completed by 2024. In general, tests with the delivery of the second stage engine will last until 2026, the delivery of the aircraft with the new look is planned as part of the new state armaments program of 2027? said Yelchaninov.
