Airbus will have sustainable service center for the entire aircraft lifecycle

With sustainability in mind, Airbus announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the city of Chengdu, China, and with the company Tarmac Aerosave for the development of the first sustainable service center for the aircraft life cycle in China.
Airbus sees the pandemic as a moment for a new beginning of a more sustainable future. "This is yet another concrete contribution to the aviation industry's pursuit of sustainability, supporting the principle of a circular economy in line with Airbus' purpose to pioneer the sustainable aerospace sector," said Klaus Roewe, Senior Vice President Customer Service. The agreement covers all stages of an aircraft's life cycle in a more sustainable way, parking, storage, maintenance, upgrades, conversions, dismantling and recycling services for various types of aircraft. A formal agreement is expected to be signed in mid-2022, with the center entering service in 2023.
“This exclusive center will support the expansion of Airbus' aviation services, enabling the implementation of China's “Green Industry” strategy.”
The large facility will have 690,000 meters and storage capacity for up to 125 aircraft to allow for aircraft reuse and equipment recycling.
