Airbus has faced the pandemic with focus and resilience. This Wednesday, the company announced that it will hire 6,000 new employees in the first half of 2022. The hiring will take place around the world.
During the pandemic, Airbus announced an employee cut of 15000. The company's number of employees was reduced from 135000 at the end of 2019 to 126000.
Production of single-aisle planes, such as the A320 family, dropped from 60 planes before the pandemic to 40 planes a month. Now the number starts to rise gradually and is at 45 planes a month.
The year 2020 and, to a lesser extent, 2021, were difficult years with many uncertainties for those who work in aviation and for airlines in general. Thus, Airbus looks to the future with confidence and optimism. The new hires have an emphasis on acquiring new skill sets to support decarbonization, digital transformation and cyber technology efforts. In addition, part of the vacancies are intended for recent graduates.
The number of vacancies by country was not disclosed, although the company has said that it will hire employees for all areas of activity (commercial aviation, defense and space and helicopters). The hires include personnel to work with upcoming eVTOL CityAirbus, and military aircraft such as the Eurofighter Typhoon.
