The demand for air cargo has grown and remained at high levels since the beginning of the pandemic. For example, Frankfurt airport had record cargo traffic last year.
To take advantage of the demand, Air Canada, instead of discarding its old Boeing 767, decided to dedicate it only to cargo, converting it completely into a freighter.
In 2021, even without purely freighter aircraft, Air Canada Cargo was Canada's largest air cargo service provider, with a presence in more than 50 countries and with hubs in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago, London and Frankfurt.
Although the company has not yet set a date for the start of flights, the transport of cargo with the B767 should start later this year. This will not be the first time the converted aircraft has visited Frankfurt. The first aircraft, C-FPCA, flew to Frankfurt eight times in December 2021.
“This represents a significant improvement for Air Canada Cargo in Frankfurt, as the cargo base plays a key role in our global route network. In addition, we are increasing our potential by increasing handling with the expected start of regular freighter operations at this important hub,” said John Lloyd, Director, Europe, Middle East and India, Air Canada Cargo.
Air Canada has increased its cargo handling capacity by 35% to facilitate arrival in Frankfurt. 5 thousand square meters are used for its cargo operation.
