The controversy over the reduction of the order for the KC-390 from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to Embraer seems to have reached a resolution. Thus, the FAB will acquire only 22 units of the multi-mission aircraft, instead of the initial 28 units. Deliveries are expected to extend until 2034.

The deadline for these deliveries is designed to meet the FAB's budget restrictions and meet Embraer's needs. According to Lieutenant Brigadier Carlos de Almeida Baptista Junior, the FAB has a restricted budget for a long time. “Buying 28, we will only receive them in 14 years, it makes no sense for us or for Embraer. There are processes of obsolescence to analyze”.

The lieutenant stressed that the FAB would need the 28 units or even more, but that the receipt of Saab Gripen fighters is more important at the moment. Portugal already has an agreement for five KC-390 aircraft and Hungary, another two units.

This agreement reinforces Embraer's strategic partnership with the FAB.

The KC-390 is a multi-mission aircraft, including troop transport, humanitarian support, cargo transport, among others. The plane gained prominence in Brazil with humanitarian missions against covid-19.
