Aircraft leasing and insurance companies are taking their aircraft out of flights in Ukraine. Afraid of a Russian invasion, Ukraine International Airlines began taking its own planes out of the country.
On Sunday, Ukraine's government even announced that it would keep its airspace open to international flights, despite Russian troops on the country's borders carrying out military exercises.
Ukraine's low-cost airline SkyUp had its flight from Portugal to Kiev forced to land in Moldova because the Irish plane leasing company revoked its permission to fly to Ukraine.
SkyUP added that European leasing companies are demanding that Ukrainian airlines return their planes to EU airspace within 48 hours.
Thus, today, 14, the national airline, Ukraine International Airlines released the following note: “due to the foreign policy situation, the company has received an official notification from insurance companies to terminate aircraft insurance for flights in Ukrainian airspace. . In this regard, Ukraine International Airlines, at the request of the lessors, sends 5 Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Spain, keeping the remaining aircraft in the fleet. In addition, two of the company's aircraft are sent for engine maintenance in Belgrade”.
The company will keep its passengers informed of its flights and schedules through digital formats. It is believed that in the coming days there may be more cancellations and changes due to tensions in the region.
