Today, during the Singapore Airshow, Boeing and ST Engineering announced that they are expected to increase production capacity of the Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) 767-300 to meet growing global cargo demand.
The Boeing 767-300BCF conversion line will join the two announced conversion lines at the Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company Limited (Gameco) facility in Guangzhou.
“Boeing is pleased to further expand our strong and enduring relationship with ST Engineering on the versatile 767-300BCF and its global customer base. ST Engineering has been an MRO supplier for over forty 767-300BCF conversions and their technical expertise and commitment to the program are recognized and greatly appreciated,” said Boeing Global Services President and CEO Ted Colbert.
Boeing had already predicted that 1720 freighter conversions would be needed over the next 20 years. Much of that cargo capacity will be from Asia-Pacific, with around 505 converted widebody aircraft.
The Boeing 767 had more than 1200 units delivered, most of them -300 and -300ER. After retiring as a passenger aircraft, the plane is proving to be a very capable freighter as it is agile and has good capacity and payload.
As a result, the 767-300BCF has already accumulated more than 100 orders and purchase commitments from notable customers, with DHL as the customer that has placed the largest order so far, adding nine more units last year.
Gameco already has the 737-800BCF conversion, a very popular model in the cargo market.
