Singapore Airlines has entered into an agreement for the purchase of seven units of the new Airbus freighter, the A350F, confirming the commitment made in December 2021. The agreement was made official today at the Singapore Airshow.
“This order reinforces the importance of the cargo market for the Group. The introduction of the A350F will increase our capabilities in this key sector, ensuring that we are ready for the growth opportunities that will arise in the years ahead. These next-generation aircraft will substantially increase our operational efficiencies and reduce our fuel consumption, making an important contribution to the success of our long-term decarbonization goals,” said Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines.
As a result, Singapore Airlines, which is already the world's largest A350 operator with 58 units currently in service, will be the launch customer for the new generation freighter.
“The A350F will fit seamlessly into the carrier’s existing fleet, while redefining the operational efficiency of its cargo operations, bringing a 40% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to the aircraft it will replace at SIA, offering same payload capacity and longer range,” said Christian Scherer of Airbus.
The Airbus freighter is expected to replace Singapore Airlines Cargo's existing 747-400F fleet starting in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The A350F has many technologies that make it quite attractive to the market, such as fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the use of stronger and lighter parts and improved aerodynamics over the previous generation.
