At a time of fleet renewal, Avianca signed a commitment to purchase 88 aircraft from the Airbus A320neo family. The airline also has another 50 purchase options in the agreement, totaling up to 138 aircraft of the model in its passenger fleet. The planes are expected to begin operations between 2025 and 2031.

Rohit Philip, Avianca's CFO, recalls that the A320neo is the most advanced single-aisle aircraft in terms of efficiency, reliability and comfort. The A320neo incorporates the latest technologies, including new generation engines, Sharklets and aerodynamics, which together deliver 20% fuel savings and CO2 reduction compared to previous generation Airbus aircraft.

Avianca has more than 90 A320 aircraft in its fleet, which are undergoing a cabin renovation, 26 of which already have the new Plus and Economy seats. By the end of 2022, the entire fleet will be reconfigured, including the Primium offer. The cabin configuration of the A320neo will be the same as that defined for the previous generation A320.

The acquisition of the aircraft is part of expansion plans that include the operation of more than 200 routes and more than 130 aircraft by 2025.
