8 Ukrainian aircraft were shot down between Monday and Tuesday (7th and 8th). This information was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Russian state media specified the aircraft. There were four Sukhoi Su-27 fighters, one Su-25, one MiG-29 and one Mi-24 helicopter.
"Russian Aerospace Forces fighter planes shot down two Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29s and one Su-27 in the air," said Russian defense ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov.
The shooting down of eight Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drones was also reported.
Much of Ukrainian aircraft casualties were on the ground, with Ukraine asking for NATO help to receive more fighter jets.
Russia does not seem to be using all its air power, but it uses air forces in a strategic way, such as the use of the Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback, Su-24 and Su-25, in addition to the Sukhoi Su-30 and Su-35.
Russia has used air-to-ground missiles to destroy important strategic targets in Ukraine, such as air bases. According to information, eight cruise missiles hit the Vinnytsia airfield that was serving as a base for the Ukrainian air force.
However, Russia also accumulates significant losses. On Saturday (5), according to information from Ukraine, four Russian Su-34 Fullback fighter jets and one Su-30 were shot down in northern Ukraine.
Photos of the Su-34 wreckage circulate on the net, as well as photos of Russian pilots who were captured.
