After two years of stoppages, India's Ministry of Civil Aviation announced the return of scheduled international flights. The return was supposed to take place at the end of January, but was extended until February 28, which in turn was extended again until March 27. This date also marks the start of the IATA Summer Schedule.
An attempt to open it had already been made in December 2021. However, the omicron variant of the coronavirus did not allow it. The reopening is due to the pivotal role that vaccines have played around the world. About 60% of the country's residents are fully vaccinated.
“After recognizing the increase in vaccination coverage worldwide and in consultation with stakeholders, the Government of India has decided to resume scheduled international passenger commercial services to and from India from 27/03/2022. suspension of scheduled commercial flights and international passenger services to and from India, therefore, only extend until 23:59 hours IST on 26/03/2022,” said the Ministry of Civil Aviation of India.
