Fuels are accumulating sharply in prices in Brazil. According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the price of a liter of QAV (aviation kerosene, the main fuel used in aviation) has increased 15% this year, from R$ 3.44 in January to R$ 3.98 at the beginning of March.
Gol informed today, in its medium and short term planning, a projection with important reductions. The company's fleet has been reduced by 5 aircraft and now only 65 to 75% of seats are expected to be taken back, up from 80 to 90% of the previous forecast. In this way, the company expects to spend less fuel in its operations, about 7.3%.
However, Gol still maintains its fleet transformation forecast, which should have 44 Boeing 737-MAXs by the end of the year, which should lead to a reduction of approximately 8% in its unit cost (CASK).
Azul also suffers the consequences. In a note, it says that the war in Ukraine has devastating consequences, such as the exponential increase in the value of various commodities, such as a barrel of oil.
According to the company, this situation may affect the resumption of aviation in Brazil. Today (14), the company announced the reduction of direct flights from São Paulo to Fernando de Noronha from seven to just two weekly trips in both directions.
The company says that the price of a barrel of oil was once more expensive, but the current situation is much worse, since the dollar was well below the current 5 reais, around 2 reais.
Latam has also already stated that its movement will be 10% lower than projected before, being also 2% to 3% lower than the level recorded in the pre-covid.
The Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear) also expresses concerns, defending "emergency measures to contain prices that can be taken during the duration of the conflict".
