Due to the reduction in the numbers of the pandemic and the advance of vaccination, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic will have to withdraw the mandatory mask on some flights. The new rules come into effect from Wednesday the 16th.
The mandatory face masks were suspended in January in the United Kingdom, but the companies did not change their rules, as most destinations they serve still had masks mandatory.
Thus, the removal of mandatory masks will only take place on flights whose destination no longer has the need for mandatory face protection. Destinations that still adopt the mandatory use of masks, such as Italy and the United States, must have mandatory masks during the flight.
British Airways Chief Operating Officer Jason Mahoney was keen to point out that keeping customers safe is a priority, and passengers can make a personal choice when choosing to use protection.
In addition to British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, TUI and Jet2 have suspended mandatory masks on flights within the UK.
Heathrow airport will abandon the mandatory mask in its facilities on the same date (16). The airport communicates that masks will still be advisable, however, following the recent rules adopted by the country, protection will no longer be mandatory. In addition, the statement emphasizes that the use of masks may be mandatory again if a significant increase in cases of covid is detected.
In addition, from Friday (18), all travelers, vaccinated or not, will be able to visit the country without the need for a covid test before the arrival flight and without the need to fill out the passenger location form. That is, it will no longer be necessary to isolate yourself or take a test on the eighth day, as it is currently.
