Latam Airlines will have a program called Sextas Compensam, which should have zero-emission cargo and passenger flights every Friday, starting tomorrow, the 18th. With this, the company expects to offset around 18,500 tons of CO2 this year in Brazil . Other countries are also included in the company's plans, such as Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Colombia.

Each ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted will be offset with carbon credits, with the amounts used in conservation and reforestation programs. The program is part of the company's commitment to be carbon neutral by 2050.

In Brazil, the air shuttle Rio de Janeiro (SDU) x São Paulo (CGH) averages 3,000 passengers, with 14 flights lasting just over an hour. Brasília (BSB) x Belém (BEL) has a flight every Friday, lasting two and a half hours.

“The Sextas Compensam program also reflects on the protection of biodiversity and the economic development of communities,” said Gislaine Rossetti, director of Institutional and Regulatory Relations for the area in Brazil.
