Pobeda, a Russian low-cost airline, suffers from a parts shortage caused by the sanctions, and will ground 16 of its 41 Boeing 737-800 jets. The information is from Friday.
“To maintain flight safety, we will reduce the fleet to 25 aircraft. The remaining planes will not fly until the end of the year, so the spare parts we have accumulated will last until the lost supply chains are restored.”
Apparently, Pobeda, Aeroflot's low-cost unit, will not cannibalize planes, that is, use parts from other planes to keep them flying.
Russia suffers sanctions from major manufacturers, such as Boeing, Airbus and Embraer, and will not receive support and spare parts from these companies. Thus, several Russian airlines are being allowed to carry out their own maintenance on Western planes.
