Etihad's Airbus A350s began delivery in 2019, but instead of heading to the company's hub in Abu Dhabi, these new planes were taken straight to storage in Bordeaux, bringing the total to five aircraft in storage.
However, Etihad remained committed to its A350-1000 fleet, adding it to the Dreamliners fleet and dropping the A380 and 777-300ER.
The A350-100 debuted at last year's Dubai Air Show with its special livery. This is the same plane that started its passenger services today just before 8:00 am on flight EY37 from Abu Dhabi to Paris.
The A350 has a new business class, with very spacious, modern and tasteful seats. The seats have an individual door that makes it much more private. The lighting, also very good, makes the environment even more pleasant and with a feeling of being spacious.
Storage options have also been rethought to further increase the feeling of spaciousness. The tray table can be used in various positions to work, rest and eat in comfort.
However, the economy class also received improvements, such as an adjustable headrest. Each seat has a screen that is among the largest ever seen in the category, in addition to offering bluetooth so passengers can connect their own headphones.
Of the 5 A350 aircraft received, Etihad expects four to enter service this year, including for long-haul flights such as from the airline's hub to countries such as the US and Australia.
