On the morning of this Monday, 11, the European Commission released a list of Russian airlines that will face restrictions or bans on flights in the European Union.
The reason for the restrictions imposed on these 20 companies is that they do not comply with international safety standards. The European Commission clarified that the measure does not represent a new sanction against Russia, but a technical reason based on security.
In all, there are 21 Russian companies on the list of restrictions. They are: Aurora Airlines; Aviastar-TU; Izhavia; Yakuitia; Rusjet; UVT Aero; Siberia Airlines; Smartavia Airlines; Iraero Ailrines; Ural Airlines; Alrosa Air Company; Nordstar Airlines; Rusline; Yamal Airlines; Nord Winds; Aircompany Ikar; Pobeda Airlines; Aeroflot; Rossiya Airlines; Skol Arilines and Utair Aviation.
Safety concerns became evident after Russia began to force the registration of foreign aircraft as Russian, allowing the aircraft to continue to operate even without valid certificates of airworthiness.
After the inclusion of Russian companies in the list, a total of 117 airlines around the world are banned or with travel restrictions in the European block.
The European Union Air Safety Committee is supported by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
