Viracopos Airport registers increase in the cargo sector in the first quarter

Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas, showed an increase in handling in the cargo sector in the first quarter of 2022. The airport, which had already registered a historic record of cargo handling, recorded another increase of 10.11% in the period of first quarter, moving 87.5 thousand tons. In comparison, there were 79,500 tonnes in the same period last year.
The high results were maintained in all analyzed months, being 11.5% in January, 16% in February and 4.2% in March. March 2022 also had the highest increase ever recorded since the beginning of the airport concession, with a total of 32.2 thousand tons. The second best was March 2021, with 30.3 thousand tons. By sector, the biggest increases were in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, technology, auto parts and apparel.
Today, Viracopos is the largest cargo import airport in the country, handling 40% of all air cargo that arrives in Brazil. The import and export segments also showed growth in the period.
