After the incident with an Envoy Air E175, which lost the winglet of one of its wings after severe turbulence, DAE No. wing tip connection region, possibly affecting the structure to the point where the winglet could detach in flight.

As this condition can occur in other aircraft of the same type and affects flight safety, all Embraer E175 operators must perform an emergency wing inspection as determined by the ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency) Emergency Airworthiness Directive.

The agency determines the “inspection for the existence of cracks and rework, if applicable, of the junctions of the left (Left-Hand – LH) and right (Right-Hand – RH) semi-wing tips, and modification of the Airworthiness Limitations of the airplane” . In addition, DAE notes the possibility of the part causing damage to other parts of the aircraft if it comes off.

The inspection is divided into four parts that depend on the amount of flight hours of the aircraft. The most rigorous inspection, in the next 10 hours of flight, must happen in aircraft that have the spar with more than 19800 hours of flight since its installation.

Rigorous inspections should look for any evidence of cracking on aircraft that are equipped with the parts identified by the PN (Part Number) indicated on the DAE.
