Embraer's first startup day encouraged companies to adopt sustainable flight technologies and initiatives. Embraer focused its efforts on the Energia family of airplanes, which are sustainable airplanes with innovative technologies.

The result was 16 companies presenting their technologies to collaborate with the family of sustainable airplanes. Altogether, the technologies focused on four critical areas: electric and hybrid powertrain, fuel cells, hydrogen storage, and battery technology.

The team responsible for the development of the Energia family will explore these opportunities and intend to make the first selection in the third quarter of 2022. The climate challenge facing the aviation sector is great, and any new company that will contribute efficiently is welcomed.

Embraer is naturally a disruptive company. However, some of the technologies that will have to be used haven't even been discovered yet.

"It is gratifying to have attracted so many interesting organizations from around the world, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States to our Energy Family initiative," said Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.

While very important, these are not all areas where new technologies will be needed. Sustainable cabin design projects, connectivity, ground handling, clean energy generation, among others, will also be the areas where Embraer will need new technologies and is already preparing other “startup days” to select companies that can contribute.
