Embraer would develop the STOUT (Short Take Off Utility Transport) project with the aim of replacing the Bandeirante fleet, which is still in service. The project, presented in late 2020, showed a hybrid turboprop aircraft. However, the project must be cancelled.
According to the Commander of the Air Force, Carlos de Almeida Baptista Jr, the end of the project happened because of budgetary restrictions. The explanation is the need for more resources to purchase 26 more Gripen units. In the end, there will be 66 units, divided between F-39E (single-seat) and F-39F (two-seat).
Thus, the FAB must officially cancel the project within two months. While important, the entire development of the plane would be very expensive. Instead, possibly, the FAB will choose to acquire planes that already exist for this purpose.
In addition, Baptista Junior revealed that the F-39F will not be produced in Brazil, as was the initial idea. Only single-seat F-39E models should be produced here.
