Demand for flights in Europe has been higher than anticipated. Much of this is due to the advance of vaccination against covid and the beginning of summer.

On the other hand, companies, which laid off many employees during the pandemic, are unable to hire at the same speed as demand rises. This kind of problem accumulates across Europe.

It is not uncommon to read news about various cancellations, delays and queues at European airports. However, the lack of staff doesn't just happen at check-in. In Dublin, Ireland, the queue for the departure lounge lasted up to three hours due to a lack of staff to do x-rays. In Manchester, the airport had to call in the fire department to help teams load luggage onto planes.

But this is nothing new. So what are airlines and airports doing? Airports, like Dublin, are hiring. More than 600 employees were recently hired to meet unexpected demand. Airlines also need to adapt. Some companies, such as British Airways, KLM and easyJet, have canceled flights and the sale of new tickets while adapting to the movement.

Other companies, such as SAS, are leasing more planes to serve passengers. Some even take the form of a wet lease.

And the problem may still extend, as even hiring more staff, training time is still required. Thus, there is no simple short-term solution.
