Grupo Latam has been testing drones to inspect planes. The drones take up to 2000 photos from all angles of the plane's fuselage and are able to use artificial intelligence to check the need for maintenance on components.
Tests are being carried out at the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) unit in São Carlos, São Paulo. However, the tests must be taken to the Maintenance Scepter in Santiago, Chile.
“At LATAM, we see technology as an opportunity to improve and optimize our aircraft maintenance and inspection processes. Therefore, we are constantly looking for new tools that allow us to establish more efficient and accurate processes, always having the safety of our passengers and employees as a priority”, says Marcos Melchiori, Senior Manager MRO São Carlos of the Latam Airlines Group.
In addition, Latam is using augmented reality glasses to carry out maintenance. The images obtained are transmitted directly to the engineering areas, allowing for faster decision-making.
