On June 7, Copa Airlines performed flight CM303, departing Los Angeles (LAX), bound for Panama (PTY) using SAF. The flight, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 9, is part of an initiative organized by Boeing and IATA for the entire airline industry to use SAF on selected flights departing Los Angeles International Airport in California, United States.
The 39,000 pounds of SAF were acquired from the company World Energy. The flight reaffirms Copa Airlines' commitment to zero carbon emissions by 2050. Thus, the initiative resulted in a reduction of 472,500 pounds of CO2.
This flight took place as a result of a series of meetings being held by the aviation sector to define strategies aimed at achieving zero net emissions. However, achieving this goal by 2050 will not be an easy task, requiring investments from the government, regulators, manufacturers and suppliers, among others.
Meanwhile, Copa Airlines, and most airlines, continue to take steps to reduce their environmental impact.
