After two years of a pandemic, the Lufthansa Group has returned with a strong schedule for this summer. However, Lufthansa and Eurowings are dealing with a serious problem that affects many companies: the lack of human resources. Demand for air travel has increased very quickly, surprising companies. The problem still extends into the European summer, as airports are still struggling to rehire more workforce.

Because of this, Lufthansa canceled nearly 1,000 flights that were due to take place throughout the next month, including some from its subsidiary, Eurowings. Flights represent 5% of Lufthansa's operating capacity at this time of year. The airlines said they would immediately inform passengers of the cancellations and would offer rebooking options if possible.

Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter stated that cancellations are made in advance to avoid further inconvenience: "Over the past few weeks, many people have reached out to me via LinkedIn and other means to express their displeasure with the current situation at Lufthansa. unfortunately, we had to announce more major cancellations at our hubs in Munich and Frankfurt for the month of July. And I can fully understand the frustration. We are living in a unique situation where several factors have come together."

Ritter also said that cancellations were the only short-term solution to stabilize operations, improve the quality of services for passengers and protect its employees.
