In 2017, Emirates purchased 40 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner units. In 2022, the Arab airline no longer sees the Boeing jet with such enthusiasm. At the time of purchase, it was possible that some of these units would be rolled back into the smaller version of the 787 Dreamliner, the 787-9.

Even though it needs a slightly smaller jet to complement its fleet of the future Boeing 777X and the current Airbus A380, the company no longer sees as many benefits, perhaps because of the time it had to analyze the situation in the face of delays and problems with the Boeing 787. Dreamliner and the Boeing 777x.

Emirates President Tim Clark said: “Not taking delivery of the Boeing 787 would be beneficial to both sides. For us, the 777-9X is much more important.”

Despite saying this during the IATA AGM 2022, the airline has yet to formalize any cancellations, with many media sources citing the statement as possible dissatisfaction with Emirates' delays and pressure on Boeing.

Clark appears quite pessimistic about the delivery of the 787 Dreamliner. "We are reviewing the entire situation and seeing whether the 787 has a place in the fleet or not. We will inform Boeing accordingly," he said in an April interview with The Seattle Times.

As for the 777X, Clark is a big fan of the show, despite deliveries of the largest twin-engine widebody already being delayed by five years.

Boeing confirmed the start of the program in September 2012. The new version of the renowned triple seven was scheduled to hit the market in 2018.

Clark is skeptical about the new 777X delivery date and is planning the plane's first flight for something like mid-2025. Clark also said that Emirates has already invested around $1.5 billion to modernize its current Airbus. A380 and Boeing 777-300ER so they can fly until the 2030s.
