J-AIR, a regional subsidiary of Japan's JAL, needs to renew its fleet of regional aircraft. Initially, the airline planned to replace its jets with Japanese-made devices from Mitsubishi Aerospace.

However, Mitsubishi's jet, the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, experienced delays and a shutdown. J-AIR had time to rethink and not want to renew its 32 jets with Japanese planes anymore.

Currently, the 32 regional jets in the company's fleet are the first-generation Embraer E170 and E190. In this way, J-AIR can acquire Embraer's 32 most modern jets.

The Airbus A220 is another regional jet model that could be on the company's radar. Embraer's advantage lies in the fact that the airline already operates the Brazilian manufacturer's previous models, which could save on training.

In addition, J-AIR is looking for jets to replace its fleet of Boeing 767s, which are heavily used on high-density domestic routes in Japan. The plane could be replaced by the Boeing 787 or the Airbus A321neo.
