Air France remains firm in renewing its fleet, with the receipt of the 10th Airbus A220-300, an aircraft competing with Embraer's E-jets. The French airline expects to receive 15 deliveries of the aircraft a year.
The airline's A220-300 has been configured to accommodate up to 148 passengers in a 3-2 configuration, in just one economy class. As a curiosity, the Embraer E195 accommodates up to 146 passengers.
The tenth unit of the A220 was delivered to the company this Monday, 4th, just 9 months after the first unit. As of today, the 5th, the plane must fly from Paris to Venice, on flight AF1126.
“This is the fastest fleet integration of an aircraft in the history of Air France”, as the airline communicates. In all, 60 units of the A220-300 should be part of the company's fleet by 2025. With that amount, Air France can become the largest A220 operator in Europe.
Compared to the Airbus A318 and A319, the A220 offers 10% lower cost per seat and 20% less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The A220-300 is taking over the operations of the old A318 and A319.
In addition, the French airline is interested in a lengthened version of the A220 to replace the A320. This version was supposed to accommodate up to 200 passengers in a single class.
