The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Singapore Airlines (SIA) and GenZero, dedicated to accelerating decarbonization globally, are promoting the use of SAF for Changi Airport through the airport's fuel hydrant system. Yesterday, 7, was the first time that Singapore Airlines and Scoot planes were refueled with SAF directly at the airport.
Neste, a world leader in the development of sustainable fuel solutions, will supply 1,000 tonnes of pure SAF blended with refined jet fuel at ExxonMobil's Singapore facility as part of the pilot program.
This measure alone should reduce 2500 tons of CO2 per year, contributing to the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.
"Today marks an important milestone in SIA Group's decarbonization journey as we utilize a blend of sustainable jet fuel and jet fuel on our aircraft departing Singapore. Working with our partners, we will continue to support the adoption of SAF in Singapore." , said Singapore Airlines Senior President of Corporate Planning Lee Wen Fen.
Singapore Airlines and Scoot have more than 200 aircraft at Singapore airport. SIA's fleet includes Airbus A380, A350 and Boeing 777 and 787. Scoot has 40 B787s and 40 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The SAF delivery system has been proven to work.
The big problem is to produce and deliver enough SAF to supply all flights from Singapore airport, as well as all major airport centers in the world.
