Direct from Farnborough, Embraer and Raizen signed an agreement this Sunday with the intention of stimulating the market for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). With the Letter of Intent, Embraer can become the first aircraft manufacturer to use Raizen's SAF.
Embraer is striving to achieve its goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the global goal of 2050. This goal is ambitious and challenging, according to Carlos Alberto Griner, vice president of People, ESG and Embraer Communications. However, it is possible, as 60% of Embraer's carbon emissions come from burning fuels during testing and production flights.
“ESG is one of the pillars of our strategic plan and we are evaluating every opportunity to accelerate the reduction of our carbon emissions,” he said.
With the agreement, Embraer is expected to have SAF blends representing 100% of its fuel consumption in operations in Brazil by 2030.
The partnership is also important for the development of Raizen, a world leader in bioenergy, and for the aeronautical industry as a whole, as it encourages the use of clean fuel.
“As the world's largest producer of sugarcane ethanol, it is only natural that we are looking at a possible supply of SAF. This partnership with Embraer, a global reference, reinforces the sustainability agenda and the expansion of the company's portfolio”, said Antonio Cardoso, vice president of Marketing and Services at Raizen.
