Last Monday, the 18th, a group of US senators issued a letter to the Pentagon in which they asked defense officials to send fourth-generation fighter jets and training for the planes to Ukraine as well.

The letter was sent by Republicans Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Roger Wicker (Mississippi), Robert Portman (Ohio) and Lindsey Graham (South Carolina), and Democrats Tammy Duckworth (Illinois) and Richard Blumenthal (Connecticut). According to senators, the objective is to increase the ability to combat missile attacks in places with the presence of civilians.

In addition, they even said that they held a meeting with Ukrainian fighter pilots in June to hear their needs to defend Ukraine from Russian missiles.

Training for Ukrainian pilots on American F-16 fighter jets was approved as well. An amendment to this same National Defense Authorization Act approved an aid of 100 million dollars for the purpose of training pilots in air-to-air and air-to-ground combat. A Bill called for the same amount to train pilots in F-15 and F-16 fighter jets with Sidewinder missiles.

However, the US government is wary that tensions between Russia and the US could escalate.
