Today, July 22, departing the Farnborough Airshow, the Embraer E195-E2 performed an impressive landing as a requirement for certification for operation at London City Airport in late 2022. The required certificate is Steep Approach.
There were also ground handling tests and other preparations for the aircraft's first scheduled flight at the site, which is expected to take place after certification.
The largest aircraft in the E2 family flew to London City Airport (LCY) using 39% SAF. In addition, the used plane has a striking TechLion black and gold paintwork.
The E195-E2 is the most efficient single-aisle aircraft in operation today, emitting up to 25% less carbon dioxide compared to previous generation aircraft. These numbers make it attractive to airlines, which are constantly looking to reduce their operating costs and sustainability.
The Embraer E190-e2 already started its operations at LCY in September 2021 after its Steep Approach certification. Embraer wants its planes to be able to operate at the airport, as the terminal is important for London's connectivity.
85% of flights operating to or from LCY are with E-jets. The airport runway is only 1,508 meters long and the angle of descent reaches 5.5 degrees.
“The arrival of the E195-E2 signals that we are on the cusp of receiving more new generation aircraft that deliver world-class environmental performance, carry more passengers and have the potential to connect this airport with more global markets. This moment also represents the strength of the partnership we have with Embraer and, together, challenging the limits of what is possible at this airport, as with 146 seats and a wingspan of 35 meters, it will comfortably be the largest aircraft to operate from the LCY . While the immediate focus is on certification, we expect to see the first E195-E2 in service next year with KLM, which will be a real cause for celebration,” said Alison FitzGerald, Director of Operations at London City Airport.
