The Joint Venture between Airbus Defense and Space GmbH, FCMS GbR and MBDA Deutschland GmbH is a research and development cooperation of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) project. Each company will have a third of the shares.
The project is valued at €100 billion, with the main financiers being France, Germany and Spain.
The project aims to develop a new weapons system, including a new fighter (New Generation Fighter – a sixth generation fighter). It is estimated that entry into service will be around 2040.
The creation of the joint venture was approved this Monday (25) by the Bundeskartellamt, the German cartel office.
Arbus Defense and Space is known for its important role in the military. The German FCMS, in turn, is a joint venture between four German defense and technology companies. The creation of the German FCMS was evaluated and authorized by the Bundeskartellamt in 2020.
The shareholders of the MBDA Group are the Airbus Group, BAE Systems and the Italian company Leonardo.
