A regular Latam flight from Vitória to São Paulo ended with an incident. After the successful landing, the Airbus A320, which had already been authorized to park at Congonhas airport, ended up crashing into the boarding bridge.
At the airport there is a marking on the ground to show which position should be for the plane to stop. However, as it is not possible to see the markings from inside the plane, pilots are guided in other ways, which can be with a person (beacon) or light equipment.
When the pilots are signaled, the plane must stop by applying the parking brakes. At this time, the boarding bridge, which is mobile, must be attached to the plane so that passengers can board or disembark normally.
However, Latam's Airbus didn't stop at the exact spot, but rather passed the point. At the time of publishing this article, it is still being investigated whether what caused the incident was an error in the beacon or a problem with the aircraft's brakes.
As a result of the collision, the engine nacelle was dented. The plane undergoes maintenance and repairs.
See Latam's note on the case: LATAM Brasil confirms what happened on Friday night (7/29) involving its aircraft on flight LA-3633, from Vitória to São Paulo/Congonhas, at the moment of stopping in the position of parking. All crew and passengers were not injured and disembarked normally. The aircraft was recalled for maintenance and the company is investigating the occurrence.
