After periods of low profitability, especially last year, when it was heavily affected by the pandemic, Lufthansa returned to present a profitable second quarter. Despite the problems affecting European aviation, the last few months have been profitable for the entire group.
The group's total profit was 259 million euros. This figure shows a great improvement compared to the same period in 2021, when a loss of 756 million euros was recorded.
With higher demand, operating costs increased, but revenue also increased, amounting to 8,462 million euros.
"Hardly anyone would have thought this development was possible at the beginning of the year, when the Omicron variant was spreading rapidly. But it clearly shows that after more than two years of the pandemic, people want to travel again," said CEO Carsten Spohr. .
Altogether, 29,209 million passengers were transported in the second quarter of 2022, up from only around 7 million in the same period last year. This quarter's number gives more encouragement to the area, as it represents 74% of the same period in 2019.
Other signs animate the Group. The aircraft load factor was 80.2%, 28.8% better than in the same period last year. By way of comparison, this rate was 83.4% in 2019.
