Airbus started the week with another sale of its A330neo widebody. Malaysia Airlines' parent company, Malaysua Aviation Group, announced the acquisition of 20 aircraft to renew its dual-aisle fleet.
Gradually, the company will replace the 21 A330ceo of the previous generation with the A330neo-900, the largest in the family. The new widebody will join the fleet of six more A350-900s and will fly across Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East.
In addition, the planes will be a solution to cover the six A380s that are for sale.
The A330neo is the new generation of the A330 widebody with improvements and new Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. The aircraft offers 25% lower fuel consumption and consequently lower CO2 emissions than the previous generation.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 20 units of the model. Initially, 10 planes will be acquired directly, while the other 10 will be leased from Avolon.
The A330neo was introduced by TAP in 2018. Since then, more than 73 units of the model have been delivered, even in times when widebody planes were not so sought after. In addition, Airbus has already accumulated more than 270 orders for the model worldwide.
Malaysia Airlines had a provisional order for the Boeing 787 in 2017. The deal was never finalized.
