Azul is already accumulating many comings and goings with the Airbus A350. The initial order for the A350 was made in 2014 with the aim of receiving the plane in 2017, but for various reasons this ended up changing.
The airline's focus was on another widebody, the Airbus A330-900. Five orders for this model were placed in 2017 to replace their aging A330-200s.
the A350s were transferred to Chinese Hainan Airlines, which was a shareholder in Azul and already had other orders for the model directly from the manufacturer.
However, with economic crises, the Asian operator left Azul, taking the A350 out of the fleet. Last year, Azul reconsidered the model, which was seen with the company's livery in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Azul is renewing and increasing its fleet. The A350 would be the largest model ever operated by the company, and could be used on long-range trips, in order to increase the company's presence in foreign markets.
The plane, already with the Azul livery and named “50 is also blue”, is now flying to Lourdes, France, where the leasing contract with Aercap should be signed. After that, the plane should be incorporated into the company's fleet in September.
The A350 should be used first on domestic routes, such as Belém, Manaus, Recife and Fortaleza. However, routes to the US and Europe from December this year.
Until the registration is nationalized, the plane is flying with the registration F-WTAO. The A350 is configured for 334 passengers, 33 in Business class and 301 in Economy.
There are four aircraft of the model that will be in the company's fleet. Despite not having a registration yet, they have MSN 124, 153, 168 and 187.
